New paintings, hot off the easel, and some thoughts on art and life ...

Try Something New!
The painting above was done on a whim. Rothko was famous for paintings with loose blocks of glowing color, and it occurred to me that I could paint something similar, with the suggestion of flowers mixed in. The result was "Flowers for Rothko." It was wonderful fun, and the painting sold, so I guess it was a successful experiment. (I work on commission, so if you like "Flowers for Rothko," I can create a unique painting for you. Email me at [email protected].)
Don't we all need to experiment and try something new sometimes? The well-known oil painter Daniel Keys is now trying sculpture. My artist friend Sand Okita, who paints wonderful faces and figurative works, is now trying encaustic abstracts. When you try a new subject or technique, your artistic style will still show through, and the exercise will make you stretch and grow.So what will it be? Figurative? Faces? Abstracts? Palette knife? Monotypes? Scratchboard? Sculpture?
