New paintings, hot off the easel, and some thoughts on art and life ...

This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone - artists have their own favorites among the paintings we create. This is one of my current favorites. Like so many of my small paintings, this one was done on a toned canvas and was painted from life using one of the roses from my garden. I was especially pleased with the way it turned out.

Of course we artists also have our dogs and turkeys - the ones that didn't come out right. I used to stash mine in a cupboard. Then much later I'd take them out to re-evaluate, and usually end up destroying them. I've heard of an artist who had periodically had a "Thanksgiving Day" where he tossed all his turkeys on the fire!

This one won't end up on the fire. Another of my personal favorites is "Romance," which will be at the Los Gatos Gallery starting Nov. 1. Hope you can come down and see it!
