New paintings, hot off the easel, and some thoughts on art and life ...

New Painting, "Nobody's Roses"
I started "Nobody's Roses" in September, based on roses in my garden, but I didn't finish it until October. By then it was far, far away from the reality of those roses. But oh, what fun in the journey from my roses to nobody's roses! After a while I simply started painting what I wanted to see. I admit I was influenced by some other flower paintings I'd seen recently on Pinterest. Pinterest is an online source for images and for artists it's a great way to "run into" random paintings. I was intrigued by Diana Hoeptner's board called "Paintings that Inspire." I guess I'm not yet tired of painting flowers and looking at flower paintings!
The other part of my "inspiration" for this painting was a free sample of Williamsburg paint. The color is called "Sevres Blue." I object to that kind of fanciful name because it can be confusing to artists. A more honest name would be phthalocyanine blue with titanium white. Once you understand pigment codes you can see that information on the tube, which is why artists should learn about pigments. But wait, I seem to be up on my soapbox .... Anyway, the color is beautiful.
