New paintings, hot off the easel, and some thoughts on art and life ...

Finally, my "Work in Progress" has become a finished painting. I call this one "Persephone's Dream" after the mythology of Persephone, who was taken away to the underworld by Hades. Eventually she was allowed to go back to earth for part of each year, and her visits brought back spring.

This painting started with some spring flowers from my garden: primroses, strawberry blossoms, geraniums, muscari and delphinium. I took reference photos and made the design, but as I painted, imagination definitely took over!  If you follow this blog you know I took photos as I worked. Now I'll use all those photos to make a simple time lapse video, which I hope to post next week, so stay tuned. In the meantime, I'm starting my next painting!
