New paintings, hot off the easel, and some thoughts on art and life ...

What Did I Get Myself Into?
As you know if you follow my website and blog, I started a project to paint flowers from my garden every day for a year - An Artist's Year In The Garden. So far I like doing it, but there are good days and bad days.
The painting shown here is one that I like and it came together quickly. But it isn't always that way! Since I often like to layer paint, there are times when I start the day's painting then put it aside for some final glazes and adjustments. And in general I like to look at my paintings a while before deciding whether they're really finished. For these reasons the paintings on my website will always be behind the actual date, and not in order. But I'll keep posting, so stop by on your lunch hour or after work. Take time to see the roses!
The flower here is a rose - not a hybrid tea that we're all familiar with but a single rose, called 'Betty Prior.' It's a very thorny thing and I may take it our of my garden next year, but the blooms are beautiful - deep cerise in color.
