New paintings, hot off the easel, and some thoughts on art and life ...

I haven't posted a painting in a while because I'm still working on a larger one, a triptych. Today I thought I'd share my work-in-progress (my WIP as writers call it). The photo at the top of this post is one panel of the three that I'm painting. (In case you don't know what a triptych is, it's just a fancy word for a painting in three parts. A diptych is a painting in two parts. And now you know an artsy-fartsy word to impress people with!)

I'm taking photos as I go along, and I'll post more as the painting progresses. I started by toning all three panels with gray paint. Then I started blocking in flowers on the center panel (above). But before I got too far I had to line up all three panels and decide on my overall placement of lights and darks, and which colors would go where (below). 

So far it's developing the way I want. I'll keep painting, and I'll keep posting, so check back here in a couple of days!
